CEREC Technology

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics

CEREC Omniscan

With this technology, patients can get their own customised crown, veneer or inlay fitted with ease in a single dentist appointment – unlike traditional lab-created dental restoration which could take weeks, and with multiple appointments to get fitted.

CEREC also does not require the use of mould impressions or temporary crowns, making it much more comfortable for patients.

Effectiveness

CEREC uses computer-aided technology, including 3D scanner impressions and a CAD/CAM machine, to accurately take an impression of teeth and craft a metal-free restoration out of one single block of durable, and life-like ceramic material.

The result is a high-quality restoration, that is not only bio-compatible but also long lasting.

Convenient

CEREC is completed in-office, and therefore cuts out the laboratory middleman. As it can be done in a single appointment, it’s a choice option for anyone who wants quick dental restoration, especially those who are in need of emergency work.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Your dentist cleans and prepares your tooth for restoration
  2. The CEREC software takes a digital scan of the treatment area
  3. The CEREC technology converts this scan into a 3D virtual model
  4. With input from your dentist, the model is then finalised
  5. The CEREC mill precisely carves a ceramic block into the exact shape and specifications of your restoration
  6. Once the dentist has ensured the restoration fits properly in your mouth, the restoration is polished and bonded to your tooth

This entire process should not take longer than 2 hours.

Why should dental restoration be completed as soon as possible?

It is very important to not allow already-compromised teeth to decay further as this will negatively affect overall dental structure. This can then cause a number of unwanted side effects such as pain, teeth shifting, and jaw-bone resorption.

By speeding up the process into one same-day service, CEREC reduces the chances of these problems occurring.

Is it safe?

CEREC eliminates the use of metal, making it an alternative solution to people who are sensitive to it. Furthermore the life-like ceramic material used by CEREC is more aesthetic pleasing than porcelain-fused metal, as it will not leave a metal line often seen with restoration made with a metal foundation.

Are there side effects?

Because CEREC-created restoration is much more accurate than traditional methods, post-treatment side effects are also reduced. For more information about this, talk to your dentist.

How long will it last?

CEREC-created restorations typically lasts 10-20 years, depending on your dental structure and eating and sleeping habits (ie: grinding, clenching etc).
